Honda Odyssey Rear Brakes
My 2009 Honda Odyssey brakes were finally due for an overhaul. Every time I'd drive the van, I'd hear the grating sound of metal on metal coming from the rear of the vehicle. My goal for this project was twofold. The first is to give my son an introduction to general automotive repairs and the second is to give us an activity that we could bond over. After identifying where the sound was coming from we correctly identified the problem. The van needs new rotors and brake pads. Instead of just doing the rear brakes, we opted to buy a kit that has all 4 rotors and brake pads.

Normally I use an online retailer to get my parts, but I thought I'd use a brick-and-mortar store this time. The thought was that I'd get the parts faster if they were shipped from the local warehouse. The store told me that they'd arrive within 2 days. When I went back they checked the tracking number and found out that it was still another day out. RANT-I could have ordered the parts online and paid for the expedited shipping and I would have had the parts shipped directly to my house in the same amount of time. Sometimes, it doesn't pay to use the box stores.
After the kit arrived in the store and I picked it up, it was time to start the project. Unfortunately, because of the delay in the parts arrival, I couldn't do the rear brakes with my son. Stay tuned for part 2 where we will be doing the front brakes. That one will be perfect for the two of us to tackle together.
